Stretch Goal Unlock #6 - Stage Rules - Denizens

The second of our Stage Rules Stretch Goals has been unlocked!

In our last Stage Rules update (#3) HERE, we talked about how these rules help shape a scene, drive the narrative, and create challenges or complications. Today we will talk a little about denizens.

Denizens are a particular Stage Rule that represents any of the folks a character might encounter around Solemn Vale. Denizens can include the residents of Solemn Vale, other outsiders caught in the villageโ€™s Wyrd, and anyone else unfortunate enough to appear in one of these stories.

Witch

Darkness doesnโ€™t just spread by itself; it needs nurturing and guidance.

Foreboding 6, Threat 5, Taint 8

Curse: In addition to any other consequences, failing to overcome the Old Witchโ€™s Taint challenge always scratches out one characterโ€™s Soul.


Church Investigator

Heโ€™s seen terrible things, but theyโ€™ve always been the work of man and not monster.

Pressure 5, Invocation 5, Wits 5

Ally โ€“ Soul: If present as an ally or friend to a player character, the Church Investigator adds 1 to the result of attempts to overcome Soul challenges. If a player character would have their Soul scratched out, they may instead choose to have the Church Investigator suffer the effect, losing Ally โ€“ Soul in the process.

Stretch Goal Unlock #5 - Terror of the Dekons by Kenneth Hite

Our latest Stretch Goal unlock comes from another writer many of our backers may be familiar with - Origins, Golden Geek, and ENnie Award winner Kenneth Hite (GURPS Horror, Trail of Cthulhu, Nightโ€™s Black Agents, and Vampire: the Masquerade 5th Edition).

Terror of the Dekons is an intergenerational story module (in the tradition of such folk-horror classics as Pendaโ€™s Fen and The Owl Service) which compels the characters to live out a recurring drama in Solemn Valeโ€™s present and past.

Our Into the Wyrd compendium is really taking shape thanks to you, all of our backers and supporters. We have more exciting Stretch Goals waiting to be unlocked and a few more ideas waiting in the wings.

Stretch Goal Unlock #4 - Stranded by Danielle Lauzon

The Solemn Vale Kickstarter campaign is going fabulously. We have just unlocked another stretch goal, Stranded by Danielle Lauzon - A module for Into the Wyrd.

A bus tour along the coastline of Southwest England brings the characters into the dangerous path of a coven, on a night where the full moon aligns with the summer solstice and a dark ritual begins.

Over the weekend, Weirdo Bob took lead Developer of Solemn Vale, Mathew Dawkins โ€œfor a walk in the woodsโ€ and got him to open up about some Wyrd things:

1. Finish this sentence: Solemn Vale is....

Solemn Vale is... a perfect holiday getaway for the vacationer who wants to step off the beaten track and embrace some authentic old English culture.

2. What is your favourite thing about this game?

My favourite thing about Solemn Vale is the way the mechanics effectively convey the creeping dread in the game's tone.

3. If you were a character living in Solemn Vale, who would you be?

I'd be Father Aloysius, steadily losing my mind and faith.

4. Can you tell us all a secret about Solemn Vale?

The Badger's Stump ale contains stumps, but they don't belong to badgers.

5. What scares you?

Nothing of a supernatural nature. For me, the scariest things are mundane, and revolve around being helpless while those around you suffer. A semi-deep answer!

We are pleased to announce that the next Stretch Goal for Solemn Vale has been unlocked!

Joining our Into the Wyrd: Volume 1 compendium is a module from a name many of you may be familiar with โ€“ Justin Achilli (Brand Creative Lead for the World of Darkness, and developer for Vampire: The Masquerade).

Human Chemistry is a module that exposes a terrible danger lurking in an old neglected building in the heart of town that threatens to envelop Solemn Vale and the surrounding regions.

Starting in an update later this week, we will begin to explore the twisted minds of the developers and writers behind Solemn Vale, offering backers insights and maybe a few little secrets. Until next time, spread the wyrd.

Hi Folks,

The campaign is going great and I'll take this opportunity to thank everyone again for their amazing support so far.

Each week we are going to give backers access to a free .STL (3d printable) model or two. ย We've got some good stuff lined up: a big old model of Satan, Solemn Vale dice towers and other oddities.

Cut off for the weekly freebies will be Midnight each Sunday. ย If you're a backer you will automatically get access to each of the models one the campaign concludes.

PST = 00:00am

EST = 3am (Monday morning)

GMT = 7am (Monday morning)

The first model we'll be the Solemn Vale Bookend

These free, print ready models, will be delivered digitally shortly after the campaign ends.ย 

You need to be a backer at of the project at the time of the weekly cut-off to receive that week's free model/s.
